Sounds of Unknowing: the Making of an Oregon Sauvignon Blanc

A collaboration with Dominio IV Wines in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Sounds of Unknowing follows the production of “The Path of the Unknowing,” the winery’s 2023 Vintage Sauvignon Blanc. From the September 2023 harvest to the March 2024 bottling, I (with help from field producer Hana Francis) recorded audio and interviews with winemakers and employees every step of the way.

Though I grew up in McMinnville, Oregon in the heart of wine country, I never learned anything about wine as a kid. During the summer of 2023, I had the idea to return to my roots and try to learn about what all the fuss was about, exploring the sounds and voices of winemaking. I have learned and heard so much!
